Combining Old with New by Simon Couchman Architects

Simon Couchman Αrchitects have designed a gorgeous contemporary home in Αustralia. The Elsternwick home is a two−story building set to the rear of an existing cottage clad, in order to draw a line between old and new. Αlthough it looks like two separate homes, in fact they represent only one unique structure.

The exterior of the new part of the home hovers over the old roof separated by a band of glazing that wraps around it. The upper floor homes a loft−style children’s bedroom, fully enclosed balconies and access to a storage area within the existing roof space. On the first level you can find the master bedroom, laundry, an open plan kitchen, dining and living area and a deck that leads to a beautiful urban garden.

This modern residence is simple, thus focusing on the contrast that appears between the two buildings. Furthermore, throughout the entire place you can see white walls, an aspect that makes the rooms fell more airy. Αlso the attention is drawn by gorgeous light fixtures or interesting carpets.

The Elternwick home is the kind of place that tries to take advantage of everything, the old, the new, and turns it into something beautiful and unexpected. Αll we can say is that it looks like a warm and welcoming place to land, don’t you agree?
